Wilcox + Flegel is seeking a Truck Shop Parts Intern to join our team in the Truck Shop department for the summer! As the Truck Shop Parts Intern, you will be responsible for assisting the Truck Shop Team with inventory management, organization, and maintenance of our shop to support our operations. Position Summary:

The Truck Shop Parts Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with our Truck Shop department to learn more about the operations of a mechanical and technical environment. This role will assist the department in efficiency through organization, accurate inventory, and maintenance of essential parts. The Truck Shop Parts Intern will build compliant and proper storage systems as well as up-keep a clean and safe environment to work in. Attention to detail and focus on safety will be crucial to the success of this role. Responsible to role model our Core Values.

 

Essential Position Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean, well-organized workspace throughout the shop setup process

  • Assist with general startup support and light shop cleanup, as needed (taking out garbage, sweeping, general housekeeping, etc.)

  • Assist in setting up the overall shop space (helping with layout, tool organization, and equipment placement, etc.)

  • Collaborate with Parts Coordinator and technicians to map out the new shop layout that will optimize workflow and job efficiency

  • Maintain an inventory system, such as TMT, manual or digital

  • Unload, sort, and organize all parts transferred from the previous shop

  • Implement the layout of the new parts department for optimal flow and efficiency

  • Set up proper storage systems, shelving, and bins to accommodate for essential parts from fast moving consumables to large truck components

  • Ensure all items, including hazardous items, are stored properly and safely according to best practices

  • Barcode and label all inventory, ensuring every part is easy to find, track, and reorder

  • Collaborate with Parts Coordinator to identify and eliminate obsolete or duplicate parts as inventory is brought in

  • Other duties as assigned by the Shop Manager
