Position Summary:

The Business Analyst plays a critical role in driving data-informed decision-making across our organization. This role is responsible for analyzing large and complex operational data sets to develop key performance indicators (KPIs), uncover business opportunities, and create detailed reports and visualizations that communicate critical insights to leadership.

 

This role requires close collaboration with stakeholders to gather business requirements, identify process inefficiencies, and develop data driven solutions. The analyst will evaluate the financial and operational impacts of strategic initiatives, leveraging market research to compare performance against industry peers and track evolving financial metrics. The insights provided will support organizational growth, operational efficiencies, and competitive positioning. Additionally, this role will ensure data integrity and governance best practices are followed to enhance reporting accuracy and business decision-making. Essential Position Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze operational and financial data to identify trends, develop KPIs, uncover opportunities for improvement, and make recommendations across business units.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather business requirements and translate them into functional specifications for reporting and analytics solutions.

  • Create detailed reports, including dashboards and visualizations, to communicate trends and analysis to stakeholders.

  • Synthesize existing market research and industry benchmarks to track competitive performance and evolving financial metrics.

  • Support project teams in evaluating the impact of financial and operational changes.

  • Identify process inefficiencies, recommend data-driven solutions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Perform ad-hoc analyses to address specific business questions or challenges.

  • Develop and maintain documentation on data sources, business logic, and reporting methodologies.

  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy through validation processes and governance best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

Job requirements

Critical Core Competencies and Skills:

  • Data Analytics & Business Intelligence – Proficiency in analyzing complex operational and financial data sets using tools such as SQL, Excel, and statistical software.

  • Data Visualization – Ability to create detailed management dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, or similar software, effectively communicating insights to stakeholders.

  • Financial & Operational Analysis – Capability in interpreting financial metrics, performing variance analysis, and understanding financial trends to support strategic decision-making.

  • Process Improvement – Ability to assess existing processes, identify inefficiencies, and recommend data-driven improvements.

  • Problem Solving & Critical Thinking – Strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to address business challenges.

  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement – Excellent verbal and written communication skills to translate data findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Project Management – Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and effectively communicate progress on data initiatives.

  • Adaptability & Agility – Flexibility to perform ad-hoc analyses, respond to changing business needs, and work in a fast-paced environment.

 

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field plus 2 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Knowledge of oil & gas industry or fuel distribution experience.

  • Experience working with ERP, CRM, or business intelligence platforms (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, iRely, Salesforce, or similar tools).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field plus 4 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

Preferred: Certification in Business Analysis (CBAP), Data Analytics (Google Data Analytics, Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate), or similar credentials

Equipment and Software Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite  

  • Technical skills in Power BI or similar analytics tool (or willingness to learn)

  • Experience with SQL and database querying for data extraction and reporting

  • Experience with statistical analysis software tools
