Position Summary:

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) plays a critical role in guiding the financial strategy and decision-making process of the organization with . responsibility for providing high quality operational and financial analysis to support short-term and long-range strategic and operating plans and forecasts, including organizational cost of service and performance improvement across the entire organization. This position evaluates business models and data, prepares forecasts, analyzes trends and presents results pertaining to sales, operations, distribution, and general business. This leader will work closely and collaboratively with the CFO as well as the Director of Finance who is responsible for preparing and monitoring actual results, one-year budgets and long-term financing strategies for the enterprise. The Director of FP&A is a potential succession role to the CFO. The Director will have opportunity to develop broader exposure to all aspects of corporate finance, and to develop and hone the skills, experience and strategic acumen necessary to transition into the CFO role. Areas to include treasury management, banking relationships, mergers and acquisitions and financial risk management. This individual will be expected to consistently role model W+F Core Values.


Essential Position Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates preparation and review of all planning and forecast processes beyond the annual budget.
  • Prepares analysis of current or proposed operations and provides timely and concise recommendations to improve results and performance.
  • Elicits, analyzes, specifies, and validates the business needs of stakeholders, be they customers, team members and owners.
  • Designs, develops, and validates performance, cost of service and operational reports for the organization, including input for product pricing.
  • Analyzes financial data, trends and variances to provide actionable insights to senior management for effective decision making.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional leadership and teams to support strategic initiatives and business planning efforts.
  • Creates ad hoc templates, reports, and analysis for use by managers to evaluate their businesses, including industry benchmarking.
  • Collects/organizes financial application information and inputs into financial model.
  • Applies standardized business control processes, measures and reporting across the organization.
  • Evaluates business data for purposes of establishing guidelines, variance, and discrepancy analysis to determine opportunities for improved operational efficiencies.
  • Working with the Director of Finance, designs, develops, and validates dashboards for the organization and customers and make recommendation on improvements.
  • May lead and mentor a team directly and indirectly supporting the CFO and Director of Finance in developing Team Members to reach their best potential.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, continuous learning, collaboration and excellence.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Financing on accounting methods and procedures that will better and more quickly facilitate highly impactful financial analysis.
  • Evaluates business processes, anticipates requirements, uncovers areas for improvement and develops implementing solutions in collaboration with the Director of Process Improvement.
  • Participates in long-term financial planning and scenario analysis to assess potential risks and opportunities.
  • Stays up to date on the latest process and IT advancements to automate and modernize financial systems.
  • Prepares, organizes, and disseminates reporting packages to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Provides trending reports for the assessment of metric reports.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors performance of projects.
  • Develops, updates, implements, and maintains procedures.

Job requirements

Critical Core Competencies and Skills:

  • Ability to become proficient with Adaptive Planning (the Company’s current budgeting and planning software platform.
  • Advanced knowledge of database concepts and applications used to model, establish, and maintain operational control and reporting. Excellent analytical skills in support of fact-based decision making and total cost of ownership focus.
  • Strong proficiency with standard financial and operational concepts, practices, and procedures as they relate to business controls.
  • Strong working knowledge of Accounting Standards (US GAAP).
  • Strong project orientation, forecasting and analytical skills; high proficiency with Excel; excellent written and verbal communication and organization collaboration skills.
  • ERP and Business Intelligence Skills.
  • Ability to sort/mine large sets of data from multiple data sources (General ledger, CRM, Excel) to identify trends/variances.
  • Familiarity with ‘out of the box’ and cloud-based solutions for reporting and analysis.
  • Able to work independently, demonstrating a high level of self-motivation, initiative and follow through.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Must be highly organized with strong ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • BS / BA Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in related field
  • Distribution and Retail industry experience
  • Prior experience with Adaptive Planning a plus

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations (note if Required or Preferred):

  • CPA desirable
